Finkel Library: 6th Grade Activism Source Suggestions

Sixth Grade Activism Research

Research Reminders

Paraphrasing Strategy:

Skim the article first, then:

  • READ only as much as your hand can cover.
  • COVER the words with your hand.
  • RETELL Write down the important or main ideas from what you have just read

If you need to double check a fact or detail, take another look AFTER you write down what you can remember

Search Term Suggestions:

  • Remember: Google will find exactly what you ask it for.
  • If you are feeling stuck, try changing the search terms to find different results. Some ideas:
    • search their name plus a specific event they organized, place they did their activism at, law they worked to pass, etc. (like: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. March on Washington)
    • search the name of your activist AND the main idea of the box you are trying to take notes in (like: Malala motivation to fight)

Databases

Databases can be a great place to get information about your activist. A couple of things to consider:

  • Some databases may not have a lot of information about current and very recent events/activists
  • Databases can give you access to articles that you can find online, but require a subscription or account
  • If you are having trouble finding info, see Mrs. Senedak. These two are the databases most likely to be useful for this project, but there may be others that have great info on the activist you chose!
